Moodle Activities & Resources Infographic

My duties as the Director of Online Instruction at B.H. Carroll include orienting new faculty to Moodle. I created this infographic to quickly summarize the major activities and resources and how they might be used. This guide is available in the general faculty help page within Moodle, which all faculty are enrolled in, as well as an orientation course for new instructors.
I made this infographic using PowerPoint in the Microsoft 365 suite. I simply changed the slide size by clicking on 'Format', 'Slide Size', and changed the width to 10" and length to 30" (most infographics have a length 3 times their width). While there are graphic design tools online which work quite well (i.e. Canva), I prefer the newest version of PowerPoint for making infographics for several reasons:
  • Access to high-quality icons. The latest version of PowerPoint has a bank of monochromatic icons. Simply click 'Insert' tab and 'Icons' - you can find icons to symbolize most anything. There's no need to hunt down free .png images, recolor them in Photoshop, etc. While the icons are in black, you can recolor them without blurring or pixelation.
  • Better image alignment. The image alignment function has improved over previous version. When you are 'nudging' an image or text block with your mouse or the arrow icons, you will see multiple cross-hatches that appear when the spacing is uniform across sections of a graphic. This makes it easy to create a professional document with many images that are evenly spaced.
  • Integrating svg files. A third improvement is the ability to import .svg files (an image format typically used on web graphics) - something that was not possible prior to 2016. In this infographic, I downloaded the activity/resource icons from Moodle, which are only available as .svg files.
